BL, or Boys Love, is a burgeoning genre of Asian television that centers male/male relationships. A few countries -namely Thailand and Taiwan- have fostered the production of these melodramatic gay romances, which have their own culturally specific set of characters, story lines, and tropes. In a landscape where diverse, high quality depictions of LGBTQ+ people of color are still few and far between, it's exciting to find a trove of alternative narratives thriving outside of our typical viewpoint.
